Update May 22, 2017. The app Just does not work when or where you really want it to like when traveling in a foreign country. Netflix works, Amazon prime works, PLEX works, with same wifi connection. But Direct TV doesnt work with same connection. What more is there to say about this useless and frustrating Directv app ?? Part of the problem is that when your outside the USA ( including Puerto Rico) DIRECTV blocks the streaming from the app. Do they tell us this anywhere ? Do they tell you when the program fails to start after loading. No ! Just a cryptic error msg without telling you what the real problem is or tells you to try again later, or that your DVR receiver is in use. All not the actual reason for the problem! AT&T just leaves you hanging not knowing why it will not stream your live TV, causing a lot of confusion and frustration. THE SOLUTION: When outside the USA : run a VPN app SUCH AS THE FREE App "WhaleVPN" in back ground on you iPhone, then start Directv. If nothing else is wrong, then the live TV programs will stream through! To your phone in a foreign country. Why does AT&T need to play this game with paid subscribers to their service? Why do they not disclose it very clearly ?? Update: 1 August 2016. The new app plays back more channels and replaces Genie Go. But tonight I tried watching two live tv shows. And right in the middle of both shows it just stopped and locked up. Left me hanging with no way to see the rest of the shows. Who needs this? Why would I want to try again and have the same thing keep happening. Why would you? AT&T Get it fixed please. ---------------- review from a few years ago: The phrase " Watch Directv everywhere" in the app is misleading and should say: watch Directv everywhere in your home only when your connected to the same local network that your Directv receivers (HD-24 and higher only) are connected to also. As it currently reads in the app and on descriptions of the app user probably will take the claim literally and try to watch a channel "out of home". Well Ive never been able to do that with this app While Im "out of home" I.e. While NOT connected to my home LAN network. Am I missing something ? Please clarify the language used so its clear what this app can actually do, so as not to frustrate the user with different expectations than it can actually do.
Simple expectations. Do what the software is designed to do. But this one does not. Most of the time will not play off of DVR even though that is a clear feature available. Confusing interface but that would be forgiven and still be at least four star if it actually did what it says it will do. Good luck trying to watch anything off of your DVR. Good luck trying to download a show even though that is a feature.
Its a great app. My only complaint is the way that the Clients are labeled in the app itself. I know first world problems, but I have 8 TVs at my house and four of them are Clients connected to a genie. When I attempt to use the remote control function in the app I am only able to see the name of the Genie that each client is connected to. It makes for a process of elimination every time I cannot find the Remote and use my iPhone or iPad instead. All other functions work great, I am sure that they will figure out how to label individual clients eventually. The Larger HD DVRs and Receivers work great and show up with the correct label in the app. Thinking about it now there probably is a way and I am just not doing it right. One of the most reliable and responsive apps out there. Nice Job AT&T/DIRECTV.
App is always crashing and locking up. Makes watching tv in my phone extremely difficult
If I could rate less than one star I sure would have. This use to be a great app and I used the heck out of it. Im not sure if there was an update but I cant get it to launch anymore. I have deleted and reload but still doesnt work.
The most convoluted, frustrating app ever. Not sure if it is the app or simply AT&T. Even the guy at the AT&T store told us not to bundle DirectTV and AT&T because the sign-in process is overly complicated. We did not bundle but are still having problems. Funny how when you go to the "contact us" page the first thing they want to help you with is how to pay your bill.
You can watch all your favorite movies and shows you can see your recordings and you can record series and the graphics are spectacular and everyone with direct tv should download the app for an outstanding experience

This is the most unstable app I have on my Apple devices. At times it would let me access shows from my home DVR, but that quit working weeks ago. Live TV works at times but the app always crashes. Netflix works great though!
I only get the logo screen. Being on the same wifi network is not helpful nor is calling ATT/DirecTV. I just pretend the app does not exist.
Super easy to work with and in my opinion is way better than watching it on the tv it works awesome

As far as I can tell it is using my AT&T data. I watched part of a show and IOS says it used 138mb. No it was not a program update and if commercial used that much it really isnt a data free app then is it? Do not trust this app to not use all your data from your plan.

Every time I try to stream or watch something from my phone, it never works!!!! So annoying that you pay for a service you cant even use...I may be cancelling soon if this isnt corrected bc Im on the go a lot and need this feature!

This app is so incredibly frustrating. Not dependable! Dish app was so much better. It is nice to have the data free with ATT service but app is so inconsistent its not really worth it. DVR rarely works and getting local channels is difficult. Hopefully they will get the kinks worked out!
Just as the title says. DVR play list will not keep up. Does not show full list. AT&T has been going down hill for years. Im surprised the app is free, due to all there interest in is $$ and not the customer.
When my shows will load up its great. But at least once a week I get the error 2100 message and must delete and reinstall the app on my iPad. Yes this is a little problem in the scheme of life, its just very annoying. Please ATT DirectTV fix this already
